a pink girly post

You may be rather surprised to see the pink Hello Kitty fabric in the pictures below.  Let me assure you that I had to buy it specially for a request I had!

I had an email from a teacher at a local school who'd found my blog post on Wiggly Bags.  She told me that one of her pupils, a 5-year old girl, was in need of a Wiggly Bag and loved pink and Hello Kitty, she asked if I could help.  Of course I would.

I made three of the wiggly bags as I assume they will need washing.  I used some satin ribbon and some grossgrain ribbon from my sash.

I then made a matching zipper pouch to put them in, of course she can use it for whatever she likes.

I even did a reasonable job on the ends of the zipper!  I lined it with a cute strawberry print I'd picked up at Harrogate.

It broke my heart making these.  I really wish there was no need for me to make them but as long as there is a need, I'll carry on.  That reminds me, I must get in touch with the local hospital to see if they have a need for them.

3 down, millions to go

Good morning ladies.  I had yesterday afternoon off work to go to the hospital to see a consultant neurologist.  I've been asking the doctor for a referal to the migraine clinic for years and finally got one.  Sort of.  This "doctor" has advised me to stop taking painkillers.  Now, I know that painkillers can cause headaches so try not to take them where I can.  That doesn't include migraines.  If you've ever had a migraine, I'm pretty sure your mouth will be hanging open in shock at this suggestion.  If you haven't, forget headaches, migraines are on a completely different spectrum.  Needless to say, I will not be taking his advise.  My actual response to this suggestion was "and have you ever had a migraine yourself"?  He had the decency to look sheepish.

Anyway, you're not here to hear about my broken head, you're hear to see if I've messed up any projects recently (hi Duff!), sorry to disappoint.  I have, however, made more progress on my Wipocalypse Challenge.

WIP #17 - I first posted about wiggly bags in August,  so this is a 5-month WIP.  Wiggly bags are for children in hospital to wear to put their Hickman line in.  I don't know much more than that, but they are needed and I was happy to oblige.

When I first started making these bags, I cut out a load of fabric and was determined to use it all.  This final 4 (above) will, hopefully, be suitable for boys.  I've now finished all the 6" squares I cut.

I made 18 wiggly bags in total, these were asked for back in July by Emily of Strawberry Patch.  She'll get a surprise when I get these posted!

WIP #16 - These napkins first made an appearance in October, so only 3 months for this one!

Having said that, they only needed re-hemming and it took me all of about 10 minutes!

When I made them originally, the first two had terrible corners, the second two had successful corners.  Thinking I'd learnt how to do them properly, I unsewed the first two and put them in a pile for months on end.  When I came back to it, I couldn't remember what I'd done to make the second set so nice, so these look pretty much how they did before I unsewed them!

But never mind, at least it's another WIP crossed off.  So, that's the bathroom curtain, the napkins and the wiggly bags.  I've also finished an embroidered piece which I'll show you at or after the weekend when I'll next see daylight, and I'm pretty close to finishing another project!  4 out of 64 in the first 7 days...

I do hope this momentum lasts.

more

Remember my felt flowers?  I made some more.  I just couldn't stop cutting.

I didn't think to use white at first, but I'm glad I did as I really feel it sets the other colours off.

I also layered some colours up with green behind, I think they look like leaves.  I now have 20 felt flowers all ready for the craft fair.

I also got round to doing some more wiggly bags.  I promised these ages ago, but I assume they'll still be needed.  I've just got 3 more to do and I can send them off.

I'm hoping these ones might also be suitable for boys.

Sorry this wasn't a very exciting post, I don't feel like I have much to say today.  I've been suffering from a lot of migraines and very severe headaches recently... It might be time to go back to the doctor.

a bit of this, a bit of that

... that's what I've been up to.  I had a really productive weekend.  I started out on Saturday with a little trouser hemming for a colleague.  News has spread around my office that I'm handy with a sewing machine and so those ladies of my generation who don't have a mum nearby have been asking me to sew fallen-down hems, turn up trousers, repair ripped seams and stitch the top of dresses to make them more modest (you know the kind, two triangles to put your boobs in, gapes open in the middle showing off both boobs or, in my case, just the left one.  Not sure why.  The left one isn't even the larger one).  I have to say, I'm more than happy to do it, but my offers of sewing lessons are being studiously ignored!
After the mending, I decided I really had to sew up the granny block that's been cut out and floating around my craft room for ages, moving from floor to cutting table to sofa to floor to ironing board - always in the way!

My bathroom curtain has definitely stalled, but only through lack of time, not inclination.  I also seem to be far too lazy to take the tape measure to the window and find out how many blocks I actually need!

Next up, more wiggly bags.  I still have more cut out and I will send them off, if you have time and you live in the UK, can you spare a few scraps of fabric to help?  Click on the link above to find out more.

I managed four on Saturday. Despite everyone else saying they really only take a few minutes, it still took me an hour to make four production line style.  Am I really the slowest sewer in the world?  Well no, the slowest sewer would be the one under my house that keeps getting blocked...

My total so far - 11.  I WILL make more.  I acheived a lot more on Saturday, including some Zakka sewing and some jewellery making before heading out to a wedding.  Sunday wasn't quite as productive, some more zakka sewing and a bit of Jacob sewing, oh and the start of a new Jacob crochet project.  But I'm not telling you now, you'll have to wait and see. Yes, yes, I know you're all chomping at the bit to see my FASCINATING projects, but you'll have to wait or I'll have nothing to post about later!
