This cushion is made following Mod Mosaic, a free tutorial by Oh Fransson! It's a great wonkilicious tutorial, though I don't do wonk very well, as witnessed by the minimum wonkiness above.
this gigantic cushion was made for Jacob, to go with his quilt, so uses the same Scoot fabrics with white. I talked about the making of this cushion a few weeks ago, saying I was going to use a 20" cushion insert and wanted it to be snug, so had sewn it to 21". Good job I did, when I went to buy the insert, I discovered The Range doesn't sell 20" ones, I had to go for a 22" instead.
I hand quilting inside each piece with Perle 8, wonkily and improvly.
and backed it with whatever I had to hand! Slight miscalculation on the backing front - the whiter fabric was supposed to go over the zig-zag fabric. I can't think in 3d.
You're cracking me up with this. Your cushion cover is lovely - perfect for little J. The hand stitching is a fab personal touch. Stars all around!

ReplyDeleteI get the cushion back the wrong way round all the time!! I could have given you a cushion insert on the weekend, I got a couple of brand new ones on freecycle and they're rather big. In the past when my inserts have been too big, I've made a little slit in the side and pulled some of the stuffing out- works a treat :)

ReplyDeleteI achieve maximum wonk when I'm not trying to - it's something I seem to excel at :D Your pillow looks great - I always struggle with the "top or bottom first" layering as well - I've learned to baste first so I can check my results before final stitching - live and learn :)

ReplyDeleteI think it's gorgeous and the stitching is just great. At least you attempted it I wouldn't even consider doing hand stitching. Don't get me wrong I much prefer the look of hand stitching I just don't have the time or patience.
