Skill Builder BOM - The Mood and Woven Star

Pile O' Fabric

I made another two blocks for the Skill builder BOM, hosted by Pile O Fabric.  It was not a complete success.

First up was the Mood block.  I'd already cut these pieces out, it was February's block after all!  I added in a bit of orange print for this, but I'm not sure it works.  I'm trying to do a predominantly blue, and predominantly solids quilt, with flashes of yellow and of print...  But, on the positive side, it worked well.  I was worried about this block, there was a lot of panic in the Flickr group as one of those triangles is made by putting your ruler at 60 degrees, then moving it 2 degrees. To be honest, I have no idea how far I moved it but fail to see how it can matter!

This is the Woven Star.  Except it's not a star, is it??

See it?  Damn you wayward orange triangle, I'm going to have to unpick you...  You have no-one to blame but yourself.

  1. Looks like fun! I haven't gotten past Januarys blocks so far, just not enough hours in the day. Love your colour choices, but how did that naughty orange block get there? :o)

  2. Personally I like the orange print in your Mood block though I can see that it's the first orange print you've used in your 6 blocks so far but I'm sure you'll use more of them over the whole quilt and that'll balance it out. I haven't made Mood myself yet and was nervous about all the comments about moving the ruler so it's really good to know that it didn't matter after all. And I actually love that wayward orange triangle in your Woven Star - it shows a bit of rebellion! I really need to get up-to-date with these blocks myself! :)

  3. LOL! And I HATE when that kind of stuff happens! The star looks great though, but I also think it looks cool with that naughty orange piece too. It's like a tree, or a cross.

  4. Love both of these! I am not sure how far I turned the ruler but mine turned out okay :0) I hate ripping out things myself :(

  5. Oh, the number of times I've done that, sometimes not until it's in a quilt! I'm not a fan of orange, but I have to say, it works
