a bookmark and a bunny

I must have finished this at the beginning of January.  I know I was planning on showing it to mum when I next saw her, but then I never did.  I think now that mum has gone, you really are the only audience for my makes as very few people are interested!

This is a Michael Powell design, I bought the kit from his stall at Harrogate.  I've always wanted to stitch one and so I went with a bookmark as that was within my budget.

The two pictures above show the bookmark with all the cross stitch done.  Doesn't look great, does it?  All you need to do is add a little magic... i.e. backstitch...

Much better!  The kit included the tassel to add to the top, and the felt for the backing.

I just carefully stitched this in place so it was neat on the front, not so neat on the back, but considering no one will ever see it, it doesn't really matter!

I bought a panel and a layer cake of Thicket a while ago.  I finally got round into making one of the bunnies up into a simple little stuffie.

I used my Sew Together bag to give you an idea of scale, because of course everyone has one?!?

And here's his back side.  Thankfully clean, unlike poor Harry's.

    Isn't it amazing what the backstitching does? I hate backstitching, but it makes such a difference. That bookmark is very cute!

    I've always liked the Michael Powell designs as well. I have a Christmas village kit waiting to be done - not sure when I'll get round to it. It is amazing what a difference a back stitch outline makes. Nice finish :-)

    The rabbit is adorable. I have the same lack of interest at home lol They try but you can tell they're not interested in my stitching.

    The backstitch does indeed make such a difference and really brings the image to life. It's really pretty. Love the little rabbit too.

    Love the bookmark. I love Michael's designs too. He lives about 20 mins from me and I'd love to do the designs of the Welsh Valleys as that's where I live

    good to see Michael`s design as a book mark, have known him for years and so admier his amazing kits all done from his paintings, so talented. I know what you mean about people not being interested in our makes unless they are stitchers, thankgoodness for bloggers and blogging. Cute bunnies and liking the pouch too have not managed to make one of those.

    it won't be the same as sharing with your Mum, Wendy, but yes, there are a whole load of ladies in blogland, who love seeing what you get up to. You always try your hand at so many different crafts, and always make an excellent job.
    Your bunny cushion is gorgeous as in the Michael Powell bookmark. My daughter is a huge fan of MP.

    The Michael Powell designs are very dependent on the "drawing" effect of the back stitch. It means that you have this very "meh" stage even with all the colours on, but then when the back stitch is added the whole thing comes to life!

    Oh my goodness, the backstitch makes all the difference in the world, I had no idea what I was looking at in the first picture! Amazing job, and I love that bunny :D
