The rest of the doll's bed

Well if that wasn't an uninspired title for a blog post, I don't know what is.  I've showed you the doll's quilt I made for my goddaughter, now I thought I'd show you the rest of the bed.  Here's how it comes, a wooden bed (that Mr CA had to assemble) with a blue "matress" pad and a blue "pillow" (both flat!) and this blanket.  Hmm.  I can do better than that.

Ta dah!

I think it looks fab and I'm really chuffed with it all.  This is what the "matress" pad looked like, I'd already cut of the mile-long label:

Well how crap is that?  So I set about making a matress.  I cut 4 pieces of wadding to the same size as the blue pad.

It would then seem that I completely neglected to take any more photos of the process!  I cut 2 rectangles of white fabric 1/2 inch bigger than the wadding and sewed them up, stuffed them and topstitched that one edge - after all, matresses aren't made to be seen.  I made a sheet using the same fabric as the backing on the quilt, I just turned the edges under twice and stitched.  The pillow was a rectangle folded in half and stitched and then stuffed with fibre fill.  The pillowcase is a plain pink pillowcase based on my own pillow cases.

Here are my teds on the sheet and pillow.  The one nearest the camera was a present from my friend years ago, he's got a very fat belly.  The other bear was a present from a student when I left Warsaw.  I should have taken a picture of some of my rather large collection of stuffed rabbits in bed, but they were on the next floor down and I am very lazy.

And then here they are all tucked up.  What do you think?

I think she's going to love it.  The only problem I have now is... how the hell do you wrap up a bed??

Lovely, I'm sure your goddaughter will love it. My suggestion would be a big box cushioned inside with wadding with a layer of wrapping paper laid of the top of the bed so she can't see immediately what she has got.

It looks good, certainly a HUGE improvement on the original pic. I agree with Fiona, a box would be best, if you can find one the right size.

Looks fantastic, so much more unique and bed-like looking than the original . . . it didn't look like it would be very comfortable for the poor teddies! I'm sure your God-daughter will love it, though I wouldn't want to wrap it either!

What a fabulous job you've done. If you can't find a box, perhaps you could 'wrap' it with a pretty sheet or large piece of fabric, by gathering the sheet around the bed and tying with a big pink bow.

I would rig up a unveiling. We did that years ago when Miss B got a Playskool doll house. She remembers to this day how surprised she was when she lifted that bed sheet off the big thing in the middle of the living room.
This is so precious, and you did improve so much of what the manufacturer considered saleable.
Good on you, Aunty Wendy!

OK Wendy, you totally inspired me. I bough an antique doll bed (circa 1800's) for two dollars at a yard sale. It's sat in the corner of my living room, not sure what to do with it. When done, it will make an awesome gift for a special little girl. Fantastic job!!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww it's totally adorable - what a precious gift for a little girl! I remember how much I loved my dollies as a girl (does anybody rememeber Newborn Thumbelina ... and Velvet [with growable hair]?) - I desperately wanted a pram but never got one, boohoo, lol. I remember the baby clothes that someone gave me to use as doll clothes --- oh my what lovely memories :) Just think of the wonderful memories you're giving your goddaughter!!

Looks fab, Wendy! Your goddaughter is going to love it. Do you have a box you can put it all into to make wrapping easier? Just a thought....

It turned out great--I'm sure she'll love it no matter how it's wrapped. We made a doll bed for my daughter for her American Girl doll this past Christmas with bedding and everything. It was less expensive and a lot more fun than buying it. We didn't wrap it though. We put a lovely gift tag on one of the posts and just set it down under the tree toward the back so she didn't see it right away.

Oh my goodness!!!! That's amazing!!!

How about putting it in a box, nestled in popcorn and bubble wrap. You might have to tell her it's delicate so it doesn't get jostled.

Oh Wendy you DID do much better - it's precious! The teds look very cozy. How do you wrap a bed? Very carefully....
