pointsetta

Hello, I'm going to have a go at coming back to blogging.  I still have lots to show you... lots of things that wonderful mum and I did together.  I want to thank you all for the lovely messages of support on my last post.  It's been tough adjusting to life without my best friend, my wonderful mum, but messages of support really do help to comfort in times like this.  I won't forget what you all did for me.

The last workshop at The Bead Shop Nottingham was before Christmas and was a poinsetta flower beadweaving project.

This project was HARD!  It is odd-count peyote which is confusing enough, without the fact that most rows are increase or decrease.  I struggled with this.  I managed to get 4 of the outer petals done in the class and did the fifth at home shortly after.  Since then I've attempted to do the inner petals at least 6 times and ended up cutting out each attempt.  You can't unpick odd-count peyote due to the complicated thread path.

Here is as far as I can get.  I wanted to show the completed flower, but I think this project has defeated me!

I've found lots of mum's WIPs around her house (and I haven't even started investigating her craft stuff properly yet) and some of them I will finish in her honour.  I won't be finishing her poinsetta!

I won't be posting for the 3-weekly SAL tomorrow as I haven't touched my embroidery at all.  I will try to get back to it ready for the next update.

That does look complicated. That green though is so pretty! What will it be when it's finished? A brooch?

Glad to see you're having a go at coming back! I'd probably put both poinsettias in my keepsake box, as is in all their unfinished glory. It'll keep you from feeling like you "have" to finish them and will serve as a reminder of all the fun classes you took together.

Good to hear from you again. Don't pressure yourself, but it will be good to see anything you do.

As regards the beadwork - I have a kit for a pair of beaded earrings, and I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to make them!

Good to have you back, it's a lovely thing to do some of your mums projects in her memory.

What you've done looks good but it sounds like it time to walk away from this project for a bit.

I'm lazy - I would just leave the poinsettia without the beads between the petals - done and done ;)

What a shame about the other petals, it looks such a lovely design

what lovely beading, Wendy!
I am so glad you are going to continue blogging and crafting - it will be something to keep your mind & hands busy, and I agree, choose some of your Mum's unfinished projects to finish off slowly - it would be a big shame to leave them unfinished for long.

Isn't it just so frustrating when a project beats you!! It will be a hard but beautiful thing to finish some of your dear mum's wips. You must have so many wonderful memories tied up in them. The harder we love, the bigger the loss but now you have those beautiful memories to comfort you. If you want someone to talk to any time you're welcome to email me. shar.izzard@gmail.com
Sending hugs,
Sharon

I am so deeply shocked to read (only now) the post about your dear mum's passing. I'm so very sorry for you loss. It really doesn't seem fair that you have to endure this after what you have been through in the last few month. I wish you strengths for the coming days, weeks and month. Sending lots of love xx

The petals you have done so far are great. Odd count peyote is difficult when you are at your best. Under the circumstances I am sure it's hard to concentrate.

Urgh, that looks hard! I hope you finish it one day, because it's really pretty :D

This looks difficult! I am not a fan of odd count or increase/decrease either. I do like your petals. And what a lovely way to honor your Mother, by finishing her various WIPs (minus the poinsettia). That will make each one even more special.
