In Rememberance

Last year's poppy was looking a bit worse for wear, so it was time for a new one. Just in time Kandipandi published a tutorial for a crochet poppy so I set to.

It didn't take long to make at all.  It's made from DK yarn with the stamens embroidered in black stranded cotton and a button in the centre.

I neated up the back with a couple of circles of felt.  Thanks for the pattern Lisa.  And yes, I did make a donation to the Poppy Appeal, I'd just rather not wear those paper poppies that fall off and are lost after about 10 minutes!

How cute is that poppy and it sure beats those paper ones hand down.

I just love that poppy!!!! You should make & sell them next year, and donate the money towards Veterans charities. :)

I hate the paper ones, so I asked if they had anything else, they offered me a tiny metal one, but I said it was too small, so they gave me a MASSIVE fabric one...now I look like someone who's showing off about donating *facepalm*

Awwwwwwwwww that's lovely, Wendy - we have plasticy/felty poppies here but like yours, they, sadly, fall off and get lost within a few minutes. Do you know the poem In Flanders Fields? It was written by a Canadian back in 1915 - very haunting and appropriate:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

That gives me goosebumps :/

I need to make one of those to wear each November! I don't know how many times this year's poppy has almost been lost because the pin comes out.

Love your poppy, I have a knited one but it is looking a bit tired. Will have to make a new one next year!

Love the stamens you've embroidered onto your poppy. The challenge (if you're like me) will be to find it next year!

So pretty!
I keep my plastic/felty one on by swapping out the lethal stick pin provided with a Canadian flag tie tack that has a screw on backing.
I make a poppy donation each year too, but I haven't had to replace the felty one in ages.
