The return to work is nigh...

It's almost the end of my second week off work.  I haven't got nearly as much done as I'd hoped, but I have made a few things that I'm saving up to show you when I'm in China.  I doubt I'll do any crafting in China (though I'll be taking my giant granny to work on, I figured I could wear it on the plane home to reduce the weight of my luggage!), so I wanted to save up a few posts to post from Shanghai.

This is going to be a bitty post about different things.  First up - look what I got!

Four metre/half metre cuts of Sunkissed for the baby quilt/playmat for my niece/nephew.  I'm still waiting for the charm packs to arrive - apparently they got lost in the post.  I'm hoping Mr Postman will knock on the door any time now with them and with my coffee as I'm having withdrawal symptoms (from the coffee, not the charm packs).

A prototype.  My friend's baby wears dribble bibs like this as he has a bit of a drooling issue, but his mum doesn't want him in bibs all the time.  I thought I'd have a go so whipped this one up then took it to see Max on Tuesday, but, alas, it's a little too small.  I'll be trying again.

Granny squares.  When I first learnt to crochet, I bought a load of Rowan Handknit cotton with the idea of making a basic granny blanket.  I'm now bored of the granny blanket and the handful of squares I made lay languishing in a drawer.  It's time to move on and a sampler blanket will be the way forward.  I'm starting with squares from the book "200 Crochet Blocks" and then will move on to free patterns from the Internet.

This one was a right pain in the arse, and I'm still not that happy with it. It was very simple to sew, but I hated sewing up the rows, they look wierd.  And the ends!  50 of them to weave in, blurgh.

I found some orangey coloured crochet thread stuff in a charity shop and decided it would be perfect for a grocery bag - I mean grocery in the British sense of the word - fruit and veg.  I think I've buggered the pattern up, but I'm going to keep going with it.  No one inspects grocery bags, do they?

Right, I'm off upstairs to get sewing, and sorting through magazines for patterns for Christmas.  I can't do one thing at a time, though it's actually impossible to sort magazines and sew at the same time, but I'm trying!

love the blue crochet block, it looks really nice. My mum tried to teach me to crochet, i never worked it out....can do basic stuff. The lady that used to live across the road (cookie) taught me how to knit instead, it was my mums greatest frustration

Get your friend to give you one of Max's current dribble bibs so you can copy the pattern - that way you'll know it's just the right size! You can also enlarge it for a size up - babies drool for a very long time, LOLOL!!

Love that fabric, I hope your charm pack shows up soon. Interesting bib - I don't think I've ever seen anything like it! I could have used it though.
Your little squares are so pretty. I think a sampler blanket will be lovely. I love the look of your market bag.

I love the idea of a sample blanket - genius! Looking forward to seeing more. I have that book too although I have never used it - really must stop buying books and not using them!
