FSNI results - July

Handmade by Heidi

So, last night was Friday Night Sew In.  My FSNI follows a familiar path.  I get home from work and have a bit of a tidy up.  I get on the computer and have a "quick" catch up on my blog reading. 3 hours later I start to think I should get off the computer and maybe sew something?

There's a competition over at Flickr that I really want to enter, so I found a pattern.  I started with this vintage embroidery pattern, found in the Hoop Love Flickr group.  I cut a bit of fabric from one of the linen pieces my lovely friend Fiona sent me and started transfering the design.

I hit a bit of a snag.  My lightbox is broken and although they only cost a few quid, I keep forgetting to replace it.  Glass coffee table and lamp it is then.  Yes, I know you can do it at a sunny window but there are 3 problems with this:

1. It was 9pm, there was no sun
2. I have a special film on my downstairs windows that stops people looking in, it also blocks the light a bit
3. Sun?  Sun?  I live in England!  It's July!  It's never sunny, it just rains.

Me and my Frixon pen finally managed to trace an approximation of the pattern.

I am planning on hooping this, but for the stitching I used my trusty 6" Q-Snap frame.  Love it.

I don't think I did too badly, I didn't get as much done as some all the other participants in FSNI, but I got the machine done and half of the chair.

I used a DMC precious metal effects thread for the machine and it was a complete and utter b*&$^d to work with.  The chair is being stitched in chain stitch and I hope to stitch the dress with silk threads.  Not sure how well eczema coated hands and silk thread go together so we shall see.

I'm going to have to get cracking on this one as the deadline is Friday!

Don't forget to enter my Something Old, Something New competition.  The deadline is 31st July and there is a prize!

The metalic thread for the sewing machine looks great even though it was difficult to work with. It's sure going to be pretty once it's finished.

I love the pattern you have picked, hope you get it finished in time, it will be lovely. I have looked at that competition but not done anything about it, so you are better organised than I am!

GREAT job on the machine! Those metallic threads are so hard to work with. I go up the wall with the Kreinik blending filament that's always getting tangled no matter how careful I am to let the needle untwist.

Great choice of thread for the machine; it looks really beautiful. Hope your hands will be fine soon.

ROFL - three hours later - oh we are too much alike. I love that design and how you're stitching it, the metallic thread looks awesome but I have heard they're terrible to work with.

I use a lamp and a piece of plexiglass for a lightbox...it's much bigger than a lightbox would be and works just as well.

I love the metallic floss. It's perfect for the machine. :)

I know what you mean about the metallic thread but it is usually worth it for the final effect. Keep up the good work, it is going to look awesome!
