At October's meeting of the Modern East Midlands Quilt Guild we had a session of making the Sew Together bag. This bag has been plastered all over the internet, but if you haven't seen it before, you can buy it here.
I got the majority of it done during the day, and just had to sew the binding down by hand when I got home. I did try one side on the machine, but it looked awful so I unpicked it..
The binding is Sketch in red, I don't know what the outer fabric is, I picked it up at one of the Sewing/Quilt shows as I love it.
I lined it with £4 a metre Bike Path from the Fabric Guild as I love the combination of aqua, navy and red. The bag came together pretty easily, though I had lots of help from Kerry and Di as the instructions weren't brilliant.
Each pocket is lined in a different red print. Mr CA said his customary "very good" when I showed it to him, then asked me what I was going to do with it. Does a girl need a plan to make a bag?!?
I do have a bit of a plan though, I'm going to enter it into Purse Palooza 2014!

Good idea to enter Purse Palooza, great to see it finished too (and I warned you about that binding!). I totally forgot to show you the quilt facings technique last weekend, I can send you a link to the tutorial I learned from though if that helps?
It certainly looks like a great success. I take it Mr CA prefers the classic British Understatement..
You've done a brilliant job - your bag looks wonderful
Nice bag! (And no a girl doesn't need a plan)
I've been seeing this one and the bigger one that is similar to it (by a different designer) all over the internet too. I have the pattern for the bigger one and have been checking out tutorials, videos and blogs for tips on constructing it. The instructions in this pattern are 36 pages long!! From all I've read from other reviews getting the binding on is the hardest part. Your bag turned out great!! I love the fabrics you used.
I checked out the Purse a Palooza. It sounds like they're going to have some great prizes and giveaways every day. If I have time in October I might just see what I can make to enter as the rules say it has to be made during the dates of the event.
Your bag came out great, Wendy - I've seen the project all over the internet but haven't bought the pattern yet - does it *seriously* not have construction photographs??!??!?!
Great purse, looks very useful, who needs a plan with bags? can never have enough! xcx
It looks beautiful, good for you for entering the Purse a Palooza thing. I must blog about mine too, (I've made two now!) x
It looks like there was a lot of work involved in this one, it's turned out really well
this looks so complicated to me, you have done a great job and like the assorted fabrics used
Well done that looks great! I'm half way through one and the zips look awful. Great idea to enter Purse Palooza too :)
I keep saying, one of these days I'm gonna make one of those . . . still haven't. Love your fabric choices.
Looks fabulous, well done, and I love the aqua, navy and red too :o)
Great job! It looks excellent :D
No plan needed to make a bag! But I'd use it to organize all the crap in my purse :) Nice job-I love the colors!
