lazy crafting

So, I have a new friend ðŸ˜³.  He likes sloths.  Perusing Pinterest for absolutely no reason at all (probably procrastinating the housework), I came across this free pattern at The Twisted Crocheter for the cutest little sloth you've ever seen.  Go and have a look.  Seriously, mine doesn't look anything like that one!

I found the pattern at lunchtime, printed it out and that night crocheted all the pieces whilst gossiping with a friend.  I used some yarn I had to hand and I think perhaps it was too chunky - sort of an aran weight.  I didn't think it would be a problem as I used the size hook recommended in the pattern.  It turned out huge!

I spent part of the next two lunchtimes sewing him up and adding the embroidery.  His legs and arms don't stick out to the front as I think they should!

Nor does he wrap round my thumb as he does on the photos on the blog post and pattern.  I cut a thin slice of velcro and sewed the hook part to one of his arms so he will cling on.

I'm pretty sure my new friend thinks I'm a weirdo, but he didn't say that to me!  He seemed to be quite pleased with it and he hasn't ditched me yet!

bunny 27

Yep, I've been making more bunnies.  This time I made ballerina bunny from   (that's an affiliate link, if you click over and buy something, I get a few pence towards a voucher.  I am not affiliated with the author or the book, I just own a copy (which I bought)).

I have a real knack of making dorky looking amigurumi!  I think I need to get some of the plain black safety eyes as these googly ones are a bit too comical.

Ballerina bunny didn't want me to show you her bum, but I wanted to show you that she doesn't have a tail.  There wasn't one in the pattern and as I messed up baby bunny's tail, I left it off.

She's bigger than her brother, which makes sense as he's Baby Bunny and she must be older as babies don't do ballet.

Aaaaah, sibling love.

bunny no. 26

Yes, I really have made 26 bunnies!  I thought it was a lot but didn't realise it was quite that many.  Wonder how long it will be before I reach 100?

Last week when I was supposed to be making felted flowers for a book review, or maybe working on my blackwork, or finishing up any of the projects I've started, I felt the urge to crochet.  This little bunny was born.

This little fella is from (that's an affiliate link, if you click over and buy something, I get a few pence towards a voucher.  I am not affiliated with the author or the book, I just own a copy (which I bought)).

I think he looks so surprised as he has a very wonky tail.

I used a 3.5mm hook and aran weight yarn for the head and limbs.  Because the yarn is so heavy, he's very thick and sturdy.  I didn't have a suitable aran for the jumper, so I used 2 strands of DK held together.  The DK yarns were different shades, I like the mottled look.  He's sitting with us in the living room at the moment.  His sister is currently being born...  Because who doesn't need 27 hand made rabbits?

Fat Bunny

Don't panic!  This isn't a sales post about my online shop Fat Bunny Designs (he he, see how I sneaked in a link there?), it's a post about a... well a fat bunny!

This fat bunny!  I made her from a pattern purchased from Amigurumi Barmy by my FIL for Christmas.  It's a well written pattern, in the sense that the pattern works really well, though the English leave a LOT to be desired.  I can't help thinking that if you're going to sell your patterns you really should get them proof read.  Incidentally, I'd be happy to provide that service for any pattern writers out there!

She's a diddy little amigurumi, about 5" high and has a lot of stuffing inside to make her nice and fat, just like my real-life bunny Tiff.  I think I'll call her Mavis.  Not Tiff, she's already called Tiff, I mean this other fat bunny.

I did her ears, muzzle and flower in blue as I like blue.  I made her smile too, the pattern has her with a sad mouth, but I don't like to see sad bunnies.

1 Fat Friends pattern down, 7 to go...

crochet santa and snowflakes

Good afternoon ladies.  I've scheduled this post as at this time on Saturday I'll be at my parents house for my nephew's first visit to his ancestral home!  I'll be far too busy cuddling and kissing and playing with him to write a post!

Do you remember my crocheted snowflakes?  They look a bit better now, they've been blocked with about half a can of starch!

Although it's a vast improvement, they're still too floppy considering they're to be hung on a tree, so I think I'll take Nancy's advice and Mod Podge them, maybe even adding in some glitter.

They were made from free patterns, go to the original post for the links as it took me forever to identify them last time!   I crocheted up a couple more.  Most of the pins I have of crocheted snowflakes are from the wonderful blog Snowcatcher, where a free snowflake pattern is published each Monday, adding to the huge collection already there.  Some are too hard for me and I've been struggling - not because of the patterns I might add which are very well written, it's just that I forget that I'm not a pro-crocheter!

The patterns for these too can be found here and here.  Next up in the Christmas decorations stakes was a Santa.  Again, I used a free pattern, this time at the Sugar N Cream site which has a lot of free patterns.

He's rather odd looking, but also rather cute, I love his wire glasses.  I forgot to add a ribbon when I put the pompom on, but to be honest, he's a bit too big for a tree anyway.  He'll have to be a freeform Christmas decoration - though I wish I'd filled him with something heavy at the bottom as he doesn't stand up properly.  Clearly he's had too many sherries...

One last thing before I go.  I've been getting lovely comments from a lady called Kerry who is a no-reply blogger.  I've gone into her profile on the comments but it comes up asking me to log into open ID.  Kerry, I'd love to reply to you but I'm not sure if you're the same Kerry who I talk to who's from Leicestershire, or another one.  Can you let me know?  If you're a different Kerry, can you let me have your email address so I can write back to you?  Thanks!  Oh - and I didn't bother with a crime number or claiming on my insurance as my car is an old banger anyway and it'll just put my premiums up.

The acorn cup/gnome hat/tiny bowl reveal!

Last week I showed you this photo and asked what you thought it was:

Nope, not a gnome's hat - I don't know any gnomes.
Nope, not an acorn cup - can't think what I'd do with that!
Nope, not a bowl to be felted, it would only be big enough to hold my toenail clippings and me and Mr CA haven't been married long enough for that kind of behavoir.

In fact, it was/is this:

I can see you're still wonderin what it is!!  It's a little amigurumi bear.  It's from the book Amigurumi by Lah-Anh Bui and Josephine Wan and I think he's adorable.  He even raised a smile from the Mr who usually gives my handmade items a cursory look and sometimes a grimace.  This might as well be an entry for the Craft Book Challenge, though I don't think the host is doing anything with the challenge, she hasn't even mentioned it since it began, so I wont bother posting the logo and all that!  I will be carrying on with the challenge as I wanted to do it before I saw her challenge.

I'll definitely be making more amigurumi, I really enjoyed it though it was sore on my fingers as the small hook and tight stitches needed were tough to hook.

I finished another WIP mentioned in that post - the cross stitch book mark.

Well OK, it's not quite finished as it needs a tassel but I only just ordered them.  The lovely free chart is available here at the lovely Blog di Gloria.  There is a birdhouse bookmark chart for all the months of the year,  a couple of alphabets and loads of other free charts.  She writes in English, French AND Italian!!  Thank you Gloria, I hope you like what I've done with it.

Now, I never wanted this blog to become one of those blogs where everything seems perfect, or that I churn out project after project.  Some of them, make that a lot of them, are a realy mess!  This next item is definitely a fail.  I don't know if you remember that I tried to make the slippers from Sew Perfect Homestyle?  I gave up as I'd messed the stitching up.  Well, I decided that I should try again so I did. This time the stitching went fine, but look!

Is that not just the most mis-shappen slipper you've ever seen?  Need another view?

And it would only fit someone with abnormally thin feet!  It went straight in the bin...
